What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a modern, almost invisible way to straighten your teeth using clear, removable trays instead of fixed braces.

The treatment uses a sequence of custom-made aligners that fit snugly over your teeth. Every one to two weeks you change to the next set of aligners, and each new set applies gentle pressure to guide your teeth into a better position.

Since its launch in 1999, Invisalign has become a popular choice for adults and teens who want orthodontic treatment without obvious brackets and wires. With Invisalign there is very little for others to see, so you can feel more confident throughout treatment.

Invisalign can be a good option

Most people need a short settling-in period while they get used to the aligners. After that, Invisalign is generally comfortable to wear. The trays are smooth and clear, with no brackets or wires to rub on your cheeks. Because the aligners are removable, you simply take them out to eat, brush and floss, making it easy to keep your teeth clean during treatment.

How does Invisalign work?

At Dental Nook, your dentist will first assess whether Invisalign is the right orthodontic option for you. If it is, we take detailed digital scans and create a 3D model of your teeth and jaws. Using this model, we carefully plan how each tooth should move and design a step-by-step sequence of aligners to achieve that result.

Those instructions are then turned into a series of slim, almost invisible, clear trays. Most patients wear somewhere between 20 and 30 sets of aligners, though the exact number varies from person to person. Each set is worn for around two weeks before moving to the next one, gently guiding your teeth closer to their new position.

You will see us regularly during treatment so we can check your progress, supply your next set of aligners and make sure everything is tracking as planned. Because changes occur gradually, you will usually notice your smile becoming straighter from one visit to the next.

Comparing options for straightening your teeth

Each approach has its own advantages and is better suited to particular situations. At Dental Nook we will talk through your goals, lifestyle and oral health to help you choose the most appropriate treatment.

How to care for your Invisalign trays

Would Invisalign work for me?

Invisalign can usually correct many of the same orthodontic problems that traditional braces treat. Clear aligners may be suitable if you have:

To know for sure, you would need a full Invisalign assessment at Dental Nook. Clear aligners are not the best choice for every situation, particularly for severely rotated or very tipped teeth.

Success with Invisalign also depends heavily on commitment. The trays must be worn as instructed every day, or treatment time and results can be affected. Your dentist will explain whether Invisalign is appropriate for your smile and outline what you can realistically expect from treatment.
